In the next 50 – 60years, the truth is that many people reading this message will not be walking the face the earth, because many would have departed to be with the Lord, yes, and those who are alive would have no active part to play in the affairs of life. We call it, evening of life.

Also, no matter how young, strong, healthy or wealthy you are today, the evening of life will come. A time when you will look back and what remains are those foot mark’s of yesterday.

The things you built or did not build.

The battles you won or lost.

The prayers you made or the slumber you enjoyed.

The regrets of failure and the joy of glory of life.

When the evening of life comes, what would you be leaving behind. What is will be the Legacy of Your Fatherhood…?

We can say ‘Value transferred successively down from a grandfather to a father to a son is called Legacy‘. Note the order. We will come to this later.

Death is not a problem, but death without the legacy of fatherhood is a big loss.

A father that leaves no legacy of wealth leaves behind poverty.

A father that leaves no legacy of spiritual covenant with God left the door of his home open for the enemy as he departed.

Fatherhood without legacy is poverty. Unfortunately, there are some men who are poor because their fathers left nothing for them to start life with. There is No land, no house, no money, no connections, no good name and no influence, no friendship, and the worst of all, there is no spiritual investment in the kingdom of God. Men who started life this knows how difficult it was to rise if ever they did.

Billy Graham said, “The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith”.

Consider Abraham

The Spiritual Legacy of Fatherhood is a critical defining factor in a man’s life. Let’s start by looking into the scripture. Genesis 25:8‭-‬11 says, ‘Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre;

Abraham and Sarah his wife were buried in the field they purchased from the sons of Heth. And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahai–roi.’

Abraham’s Lagacy

Note in this scripture the various forms of legacies Abraham left for his two sons, Isaac and Ishmael. From the legacy of wealth, to the Legacy of spiritual blessing. Abraham was buried in the land he bought when he was alive. Abraham paid for his tomb before his death. Isaac didn’t struggle or wait for months to gather money and buy land or build tomb, to bury his father.

After the burial, Isaac was blessed, which is the fruit of Spiritual and Relationship legacy Abraham had built with God.

As a Father, do you have a relationship with God, which your children will tap into when you are gone?

Furthermore, when Abraham followed God foolishly, he was not following God for himself. He followed God for that particular day of his burial. That day that all will be left is what he did on earth, with God and men to bear witness.

The legacy of a father will be revealed in the strenght of the family into the third generation after the father is gone.

However, a man whose children cannot feel his legacy beyond his lifetime has left nothing behind, because the Spiritual Legacy of Fatherhood is about the the impact the things you did today have on the tomorrow you did not see.

A wise man leaves inheritance for his children and children’s children. Proverbs 13:22.

In addition, Fathers should never do things selfishly; rather, should be deliberately positioned for impact, also for the born and unborn that will stand round the grave in the day that everyone is lowered to the earth and every soul returns to his maker.
